Power Flow Control Using Series Voltage Source Converters in Distribution Grids

This study presents an application for a series VSC (voltage source converter) in distribution grids power flow management. Series devices have been widely studied FACTS (flexible AC transmission systems), however, more recently these gained increased interest applications loading balance medium voltage grids. As the number of distributed generation (DG) units increases, increasing capacity and reliability while maximizing benefits installed DGs behavior is ever important task. In this paper, we describe test system control proposals practical converters interconnecting two feeders at 13.8 kV under load variation disturbances. approach provides solutions when end lines by feeders, resulting increases without needing grid reconfigurations using small-rated VSC.
